Digging Deep: The Secrets of Soil

There's a lot going on in the soil below your feet!

Digging Deep The Secrets of Soil Exhibit

Soil is a whole universe mostly hidden from our sight. This thin layer of material covering Earth's surface holds billions of microbes, insects and tiny animals, plant roots, decaying organic matter, water, and air. Most life on Earth depends on a healthy soil ecosystem. It puts food on our plates, filters pollutants from our water and cycles the nutrients that all life needs. When our soil isn't thriving, we suffer.

What can you do to care for the soil where you live?

Let's dig in...

This exhibit was funded through a grant from the Natural Resource Conservation Service.
